Film-Poster Integration for the Apple TV+ Premiere of Masters of the Air
Apple TV+ activated the premiere of the series Masters of the Air at an IMAX cinema with a photo booth installation that made visitors part of the official series poster. AI background removal in real time placed premiere guests as the lead in the poster composition for the series — delivered by QR code straight to the smartphone. The result was a touchpoint that turned the premiere from a pure screening into a shareable brand activation, and extended the social reach of launch day organically.

The initial situation
A series premiere at IMAX has a limited window: before and after the screening, visitors have 30 to 60 minutes in the foyer. A brand activation has to work in that time — otherwise the audience is in the auditorium and the touchpoint is useless.
The brand requirement was high. Apple productions are visually precise. A generic selfie setup with a film logo in the corner would have contradicted the brand's premium standard. The AI output had to pick up the official series poster for Masters of the Air — visual language, colour scheme, composition — and place the visitor as a visibly believable part of that composition.
The technical hurdle: AI background removal had to work in seconds, so that the foyer wait did not become a barrier. Cloud processing was not an option — IMAX cinema Wi-Fi is not built for image-upload volumes. The AI processing therefore had to run in offline mode directly on the terminal.

Capture only happened after consent at the terminal, and processing was GDPR-compliant. Setup & Logistics
Four weeks' lead time: 2 weeks for the software configuration (custom UI in the Masters of the Air design, training the AI compositing layer onto the poster composition, setting up the QR code pipeline), 1 week for visual brand alignment with the Apple TV+ team (poster templates, colour profiles, final sign-off of the AI outputs), 1 week for premiere logistics and on-site testing in the IMAX foyer with the actual lighting conditions.
