2,378 sessions and 567 leads for Woman's Day for Volkswagen

For Woman's Day, Volkswagen activated a browser-based social-media campaign via the UpReach Virtual Booth. In an average of 40 seconds of interaction per session, 2,378 sessions and 567 qualified leads were generated. The mechanism: filters, overlays, stickers and a personal hashtag mechanic on personalised images that could be shared straight from the browser onto social platforms. In parallel ran the GDPR-compliant data request feeding the newsletter and lead pipeline. The UpReach KPI dashboard made campaign performance visible in real time.

More than 200 B2B brands from across Europe trust UpReach — from agencies to enterprise corporations.

The initial situation

Volkswagen wanted to use Woman's Day as a global occasion to communicate brand values — with measurable activation and lead generation running in parallel. Pure social-media posts create no direct data pipeline; classic lead forms create no activation. Both had to be combined in a single mechanism.

The strategic question: how does an awareness occasion become an activation that scales worldwide, creating organic social reach on the one hand and delivers qualified first contacts for the Volkswagen CRM on the other? A pure hardware activation would limit global scale — the occasion runs on a single action day, worldwide, with no scope for local hardware rollouts.

The operational challenge was also visibility for internal marketing teams. Volkswagen's internal leads should be able to track campaign performance in real time and step into the control where needed during the action.

The UpReach solution

UpReach delivered the activation via the Virtual Booth — browser-based, hardware-independent, accessible worldwide via a custom link. Users opened the booth on a smartphone or laptop, took a photo and received a personalised image with filter and overlay options in real time.

The central creative mechanic: users could design their images individually with various filters, overlays and stickers. They could also add personal messages and Woman's Day hashtags directly onto the image — turning the plain image into a shareable social-media asset with clear brand and campaign attribution.

The output options were broad: email delivery to one's own device, direct sharing on social platforms, or use as a profile picture. This output breadth played out the organic reach effect across several social channels at once.

The conversion lever was the GDPR-compliant data request running in parallel. Users who wanted to receive their images by email passed through an explicit opt-in with newsletter consent — giving Volkswagen a lead pipeline fed directly from the campaign mechanic, with no additional funnel break.

The UpReach KPI dashboard made sessions, interaction duration, lead rate and output distribution visible in real time for the Volkswagen marketing team. More on the technology: /produkte/virtual-booth.

Setup & Logistics

Lead time 4 weeks: 2 weeks for software configuration in the Volkswagen campaign CI (filters, overlays, stickers, hashtag engine), 1 week for the GDPR pipeline setup and newsletter connection, 1 week for the final compliance sign-off and end-to-end testing of the browser activation.

No physical delivery, no build, no on-site staff — the Virtual Booth ran entirely browser-based on the users' devices. This let the activation run worldwide, with no hardware logistics costs or location restrictions.

During the campaign run, UpReach monitored the performance of the browser activation and provided the live KPI dashboard for the Volkswagen marketing team. After the action closed, the complete lead record with a performance analysis was handed over in structured form to the internal Volkswagen teams.

2,378 browser-based sessions show the scalability of the Virtual Booth mechanic with no hardware restrictions. Compared with hardware activations, which are always tied to a location and logistics, the browser activation made a far broader reach base reachable — Volkswagen could activate both existing customers via newsletter channels and organic social reach at the same time.

The 23.8 percent conversion from session to qualified lead via the integrated GDPR pipeline is a strong figure in the browser-activation context. Standard social-media posts with no conversion mechanic do not reach these lead rates — the combination of a personalised image output and a parallel opt-in mask integrated the conversion step directly into the campaign touchpoint.

40 seconds of average interaction per user session show active engagement with filters, overlays and personal message/hashtag customisation — a clear indicator of substantive engagement, not just a fleeting click.

Key takeaways from this setup

Browser-based beats hardware for global awareness occasions: occasions like Woman's Day or purpose days run worldwide in sync — hardware logistics hit clear scaling limits there. The Virtual Booth removes this restriction entirely: one custom link, one browser, unlimited reach.

Depth of personalisation increases share likelihood: filters, overlays, stickers, personal messages and hashtags are not gimmicks — they increase the user's perceived ownership of the image they created. The higher the perceived ownership, the higher the willingness to share the image in the peer network.

A live KPI dashboard is a prerequisite for internal acceptance: in browser activations with no physical setup, internal marketing leads need active visibility of the performance trend. A live dashboard is the trust anchor that makes the browser mechanic acceptable alongside hardware setups.
