804 qualified leads from 1,345 sessions for the Vodafone GigaTV launch in stores
Vodafone launched its GigaTV product with a photo-booth activation in German Vodafone stores. Under the banner “Mission to the Moon”, customers could stage themselves as astronauts on the moon — live AI background removal, instant output as a print or smartphone download. In 3 action days, 1,345 sessions and 804 qualified newsletter leads were generated — a conversion rate of 59.8 percent from stand touch to usable CRM record. The combination of a personalised experience and a parallel GDPR-compliant data request turned the product launch into a measurable pipeline.

More than 200 B2B brands from across Europe trust UpReach — from agencies to enterprise corporations.
The initial situation
Vodafone wanted to make the GigaTV launch tangible in its stores — and at the same time build a lead pipeline for the newsletter and follow-up communication. Standard product launches in-store run on display stelae, flyers and sales conversations — that creates too little emotional engagement and too little usable contact data for a TV streaming product.
The strategic question: how does a digital TV product become a physically tangible activation that motivates store visitors to hand over their data voluntarily? Standard lead-capture tablets in the entrance area convert low in our experience — the visitor has no visible return.
Operationally, the activation also had to work in the Vodafone store's standard operating environment: without sales staff having to actively guide it, without blocking normal customer advice, without longer wait times. The activation was to run intuitively and self-explanatorily.
The UpReach solution
UpReach supplied the Classic photo booth in a GigaTV-specific software configuration. Under the banner “Mission to the Moon”, AI background removal was filled with curated moon and space scenes — customers could have themselves photographed as astronauts in various moon stagings. Live background removal ran in real time, with no physical green-screen builds needed in the store.
The conversion lever was the GDPR-compliant data request built into the touch flow. Before the output (print or digital delivery) was released, the visitor passed through an explicit newsletter opt-in mask with a timestamp and the source tag GigaTV launch. This turned the plain photo touchpoint into a genuine lead pipeline.
On the output side, visitors had the choice: download the image straight to their device or take it away as a physical print. Both options create follow-on impact — the print stays visible at home, the digital delivery travels into the smartphone peer network.
The software interface ran in the full Vodafone GigaTV CI with a clear link between the activation and the product message. More on the technology: /software.

Setup & Logistics
Lead time 4 weeks: 2 weeks for software configuration in the GigaTV CI (screens, Mission to the Moon brand worlds, touch flow), 1 week for the GDPR pipeline setup (newsletter connection, opt-in step validation, CRM handover format), 1 week for the parallel preparation of several store setups and the final compliance sign-off.
Build in the respective Vodafone stores by an UpReach technician, with calibration to the store lighting and an end-to-end test of the lead pipeline. Store staff were briefed briefly on operation and the activation context — the activation ran largely self-service.
Data pipeline during the action period: every confirmed consent was transferred to the cloud CMS with a timestamp, the chosen output format and the source tag GigaTV. Newsletter sign-ups were transferred automatically into the Vodafone distribution list. Performance monitoring ran in real time — sessions per store, conversion rate and daily footfall were available across the entire 3-day action.

days of action
The 59.8 percent conversion from session to qualified newsletter lead is a clearly above-average figure in the retail-activation context. Standard lead-capture tablets in the entrance area typically reach single-digit conversion rates — the combination of a tangible activation experience and an integrated GDPR pipeline multiplied this figure.
1,345 sessions in 3 action days show that the “Mission to the Moon” banner worked as an activation anchor in the Vodafone store environment. The thematic engagement was high enough to draw store visitors voluntarily to the activation touchpoint.
All 804 leads were captured GDPR-compliant, with a timestamp, the chosen output format and the source tag as metadata. The entire lead block was therefore ready to process directly in the Vodafone CRM and newsletter system — with no legal rework and with clear campaign attribution.
Key takeaways from this setup
A themed campaign beats a standard activation: “Mission to the Moon” is not arbitrary — the banner has a clear visual anchor that lifts the activation beyond plain “take a selfie”. Themed campaigns with a concrete visual-world reference convert markedly higher in practice than generic photo setups.
The GDPR step in the touch flow is a conversion lever: when the newsletter opt-in is positioned as an integral step between photo capture and image output, opt-in willingness rises measurably over standard pre- or post-capture forms. The visitor is most willing to hand over data in the moment of engagement.
A self-service setup spares the sales staff: when the activation runs intuitively and self-explanatorily, the sales staff are not blocked by guidance tasks. They stay available for the actual product advice while the activation touchpoint generates leads in parallel.
