The initial situation
Instant printing at A1 scale is a fundamental logistical and technical challenge. Standard photo printers produce small postcards. Here, high-resolution image data had to be processed in record time, sent to large-format plotters and printed error-free within seconds — on a tour bus with limited space.
The technical complexity: the system had to withstand the heavy rush at 10 different locations across 14 days. Format errors — even a few millimetres of deviation in the image overlay — would have required a manual check on every single poster and reduced throughput to an unacceptable level.
On top of that came the spatial constraint: everything had to fit into the tour bus, which had already been built for the brand look. The technology had to defer to the design.
The UpReach solution
UpReach developed an exclusive iPad-based photo app that laid the official film-poster layout precisely over the visitor's selfie. The interface was kept simple: take a selfie, confirm the preview, request the poster.
The real heart of it was the print pipeline: the software immediately rendered a print-ready layout in the exact A1 format and sent the image file over the local network straight to the high-performance plotters built into the bus. The rendering was optimised so that printing started within seconds. The promoters mounted the finished poster onto a backing board — the only manual step in the whole process.
The print pipeline ran entirely over the bus's local network, with no dependency on a print service on the internet — no network dependency at the locations. The iPad app communicated solely with the local plotters in the bus.


Setup & Logistics
Five weeks' lead time: 3 weeks for the print integration (agreeing format specifications with the plotter manufacturer, calibrating the A1 image layout to the pixel, print-pipeline testing under continuous load), 1 week for iPad app development and UI design in the film-poster layout, 1 week for set-up on the tour bus and location logistics coordination.
Each of the 10 locations received the same setup: iPad station, integrated plotters, stock monitoring for print media. The promoters were briefed on the redemption workflow before the first roadshow date.
Paper consumption was monitored daily by the promoters. Resupply was secured through local print suppliers at each location. Remote access to the system was not required — the setup ran fully autonomously.
