Gamification at the stand — doubling the lead rate with CUBE and UpReach

Exhibitors at trade shows and in retail face one fundamental barrier: filling in forms is boring. Even when a visitor shows interest, the conversion rate of static lead forms is often 20-30%. Across several set-ups, Lumynos Labs combined the interaction power of the UpReach photo booth with the psychological pull of the CUBE gamification software. The result from three real set-ups: a beauty retailer achieved 200,000 gamification sessions with a return rate of 4.2 sessions per user. A British fashion brand generated 30,000 voucher downloads across 400,000 catalogues. An international toy manufacturer achieved 3,167 POS sessions over 4 months — purely by QR code, with no hardware terminal.

More than 200 B2B brands from across Europe trust UpReach — from agencies to enterprise corporations.

The initial situation

The trade-off has to be right. Stand staff cannot force passers-by to hand over data. The challenge: to build a software workflow that engages the visitor emotionally, motivates them through a reward mechanic and, at the decisive moment — right before the prize is awarded — activates the GDPR-compliant data gate for the contact details.

Isolated point solutions fail in this mechanic: gamification without photo output has no emotional anchor. A photo booth without a gamification layer creates no conversion. The system had to operate fail-safe in the tightest of spaces and run without IT staff.

The challenge for each of the three set-ups was the same: how do you get visitors to leave their data voluntarily — and at a conversion rate that clearly exceeds standard forms?

The UpReach solution

The omnichannel set-up combines the UpReach photo booth and CUBE gamification in an API-connected workflow on a single terminal.

The workflow begins with the CUBE prize wheel or scratchcard. The visitor spins the virtual wheel and sees their prize (product sample, discount code or premium merch). The critical conversion point follows directly: "To secure your prize, enter your details." After GDPR-compliant opt-in, the terminal switches into UpReach photo-booth mode — the visitor receives a branded AI selfie as a memento and proof of their prize.

In all three set-ups, the cloud CMS controlled the prize payout rate algorithmically over the campaign run: a tiered prize structure (from a small consolation prize to the main prize), distributed mathematically across days and locations, with no manual intervention.

Setup & Logistics

Lead time four to six weeks per set-up: two weeks for gamification configuration (prize mechanic, payout rates, prize algorithm), one to two weeks for interface design and brand adaptation (the exhibitor's CI on the prize wheel, scratchcard and photo-booth output), one week for API integration between CUBE gamification, the UpReach photo booth and the exhibitor's CRM, one week for end-to-end testing and GDPR sign-off.

Transport in a flight case. Set-up by an UpReach technician. Operable in kiosk mode with no IT staff. Remote monitoring via the cloud CMS: conversion rate, lead figures and prize payout visible in real time. Campaign adjustments (prizes, copy, CI) deployed with no technician involvement.

For pure software set-ups (QR code on print, no hardware terminal): two to three weeks' lead time, no logistics effort.

Results by the numbers

50–70 %

200.000

30.000

The figures from three real set-ups prove the gamification effect consistently across industries and formats. A beauty retailer achieved 200,000 gamification sessions with a return rate of 4.2 — visitors played more than four times. A British fashion brand scaled the scratchcard mechanic across print catalogues and generated 30,000 verified voucher downloads with not a single hardware terminal. An international toy manufacturer achieved 3,167 POS sessions over 4 months — purely by smartphone.

The conversion increase from 20-30% (standard form) to 50-70% (gamification data gate) is consistent across all three set-ups. The psychological lever is identical: the visitor has already seen their prize and motivates themselves to enter their data in order to secure it.

Key takeaways from this setup

Dopamine as a conversion driver: the digital prize wheel creates suspense. The moment the prize appears on screen is the only psychologically optimal time for the data gate. Before it, the threshold is too high; after it, the motivation is gone.

"Everyone wins" logic: systems where the visitor can lose create frustration and drop-offs. Tiered prize structures (small consolation prize up to the main prize) with an algorithmically controlled payout rate over the campaign run avoid the "everything on day one" effect.

One workflow, no media breaks: the game, the lead form and the photo must all take place on the same touchscreen. Every device switch — from terminal to smartphone or vice versa — reduces conversion.

Standalone scaling via QR code: the CUBE gamification software runs entirely in the browser and scales with no hardware terminal across print touchpoints (catalogues, shelf stickers, flyers). That opens activation channels that are unreachable without a physical photo booth.
