Global employee activation for Hugo Boss — a hybrid of hardware and Virtual Booth

Hugo Boss wanted to extend its internal employer-branding campaign across the entire, globally distributed company. The physical problem: the workforce is spread across dozens of countries. UpReach supplied a hybrid architecture model — physical Pro V1 terminals for the headquarters as an anchor point, combined with the browser-based Virtual Booth as a global scaling solution. The result: authentic, consistently branded LinkedIn content from staff on every continent — with no app download and no media breaks.

More than 200 B2B brands from across Europe trust UpReach — from agencies to enterprise corporations.

The initial situation

Employer-branding campaigns fail on participation barriers that are too high. When staff worldwide first have to download an app or fight their way through intranet logins, the participation rate tends towards zero.

The content requirement was equally demanding: the output could not be a generic campaign image. Each employee was to be able to integrate a personal statement — hand-signed on the touchscreen — into the photo. At the same time, the finished image had to strictly follow the brand's corporate-identity specifications, whether created at the hardware terminal in Germany or by iPhone in an overseas office.

The central architecture problem: how do you make sure that the same CI-compliant layout is rendered identically at a physical terminal in Germany and on the smartphone of an employee in Tokyo?

The UpReach solution

UpReach implemented a two-pronged strategy. For the headquarters, physical UpReach Pro V1 terminals were installed for two weeks. The terminal was fitted with a touch-signature feature: after the photo, the employee wrote their personal motto on the display with their finger. The software integrated the handwriting into the corporate-design layout.

For the entire global workforce, UpReach rolled out the Virtual Booth: a single link, opened in the smartphone browser — no app download, no login. The employee goes through the same branded photo and signature process on their own device. The CUBE cloud CMS guaranteed CI consistency: the layout was byte-identical at the terminal in Germany and on the smartphone in Tokyo.

The combination created a top-down effect: the leadership team used the physical terminals as a visible example. The global workforce followed via the Virtual Booth.

Setup & Logistics

Lead time five weeks: three weeks for interface design and brand adaptation (touch-signature feature, identical corporate-design layout in the Virtual Booth and the hardware terminal, CI sign-off by the brand's owners), one week for physical configuration and delivery of the Pro V1 to the headquarters, one week for global testing of Virtual Booth compatibility (iOS, Android, Windows; Chrome, Safari, Firefox).

Transport of the hardware terminal in a flight case. Set-up by an UpReach technician. Virtual Booth rollout by link distribution via the brand's internal communication system.

Campaign duration hardware: two weeks at the headquarters. Virtual Booth: extended over several months for global locations. The cloud CMS enabled remote adjustments to the campaign content with no further technician on site.

CI consistency

The campaign achieved worldwide participation from the workforce. The hybrid set-up solved the core problem of global employee activations: the physical anchor at the headquarters created leadership visibility, and the Virtual Booth scaled that visibility to all locations with no logistical effort.

The generated content — hand-signed, CI-compliant portraits — was shared widely on LinkedIn. The earned-media value of organically shared employee photos far exceeds that of sponsored advertising campaigns, because the authenticity is tangible for the audience.

The cloud CMS ensured that no employee could accidentally alter the branding. Every generated image carried the full visual identity of the brand — regardless of device, operating system or location.

Key takeaways from this setup

Leading by example needs physical presence: the hardware terminals at the headquarters were essential to visibly involve the leadership level in the campaign. Without that physical anchor, global participation would not have developed the momentum it needed.

Zero friction is the precondition for global reach: the Virtual Booth is the only solution for campaigns that have to reach every location of an international workforce. Any app requirement or login hurdle halves the participation rate.

Handwriting creates authenticity: the chance to integrate a personal motto into the image turned a campaign photo into a personal statement. That difference is measurable in higher engagement rates on LinkedIn.

CI control via the cloud CMS: in global rollouts, the headquarters has to keep visual control. The cloud CMS guaranteed that no output deviated from the corporate design — on any device.
