100% attendance at the internal employee event for Jim Beam
Jim Beam wanted to raise employee engagement measurably at an internal staff event. UpReach used the browser-based Virtual Booth with a digital scratchcard prize draw. The result: 100% attendance among the invited employees, 117 seconds of average interaction time and 2.8 sessions per participant. Access ran entirely by QR code on personalised participant cards — no hardware station, no waiting times, no app installation.

More than 200 B2B brands from across Europe trust UpReach — from agencies to enterprise corporations.
The initial situation
Internal employee events for major brands face a specific requirement: engagement mechanics have to be low-threshold to access while offering enough incentive that all invited employees take part actively — not just a small group of early adopters. Classic photo stations create queues and exclude staff who are not physically present or who leave the event early.
The requirement was therefore: an activation mechanic that works with no physical station, no waiting times and no app installation. At the same time, the set-up was to be usable for employee verification afterwards — the winners had to be clearly identifiable, without artificially raising the engagement hurdle at the entrance.
On the software side, the activation had to be built true to the brand: Jim Beam overlays and stickers for the photo personalisation, the familiar look and feel of the brand universe throughout the user flow. The prize-draw logic had to be documented in a legally sound way — timestamp, participant verification, transparent winner determination.
The UpReach solution
UpReach deployed the Virtual Booth as a browser-based application. Access was via QR codes printed on the personalised participant cards — no download, no registration, no additional Wi-Fi login.
The user flow was built in two stages. Step 1: photo personalisation. Employees could take selfies and individualise them with a curated selection of Jim Beam overlays and stickers — directly in the mobile browser, with no app switch. Step 2: digital prize draw. Participants could scratch a virtual scratchcard and enter the draw.
Employee verification ran at the end of the flow: after the scratch step, data points were requested that ensured the uniqueness of the participation and the later winner identification. The set-up documented every step with a timestamp — photo creation, prize-draw participation, data sharing.
The entire activation ran on the UpReach cloud infrastructure: no stand-staff effort, no hardware logistics on site. More on the set-up: /software/virtual-booth.

Setup & Logistics
Lead time four weeks: two weeks for software configuration (UI branding in the Jim Beam CI, overlay and sticker curation, prize-draw logic with a scratchcard mechanic), one week for the employee-verification logic and compliance review, one week to prepare the personalised participant cards with individual QR codes.
No hardware logistics on site: the Virtual Booth ran entirely in the browser on the employees' smartphones. The personalised participant cards were handed out to the invitees in advance — the QR code was both the entry token and the verification mechanic.
On the event day, the set-up ran with no UpReach staff on site. The cloud dashboard gave the Jim Beam event team real-time transparency on activation status, session volume and prize-draw progress. After the event, UpReach handed over the final analysis including a verified winner list.

The 100% attendance is the central metric: every invited employee activated the QR code and went through the flow. With classic activation mechanics, attendance rates are typically between 30 and 60% — the low-threshold browser access by QR code eliminated the usual hurdles entirely.
The average interaction time of 117 seconds per employee shows that the two-stage flow (photo + prize draw) was actually consumed — not just briefly opened and closed again. The 2.8 sessions per participant prove that many employees went through the flow several times, for example to create several photos or to experience the prize-draw feedback repeatedly.
The clean employee verification at the end of the flow made the winner determination legally sound and transparent afterwards — the event closed with a documented participant and winner list that was immediately usable operationally.
Key takeaways from this setup
Browser-based access eliminates the biggest engagement hurdle: app installations, separate logins and hardware stations create friction. A QR code directly in the browser is the lowest-threshold mechanic — and that is measurably reflected in the attendance rate.
A two-stage flow increases dwell time: a pure photo activation would have been over in under 60 seconds. The combination of photo personalisation and prize-draw mechanic extended the interaction to 117 seconds — brand contact time doubled, without overloading the user experience.
Verification at the end, not the start: placing data points for winner verification before the actual experience loses participants at the entrance hurdle. Verification in the final step — after the positively experienced flow — raises data quality without harming conversion.
Internal employee events need different mechanics from external activations: adult-only set-ups call for an appropriately formal event logic — employee cards as access tokens are both a verification and a compliance instrument here.
