AI film-scene integration for the Mission Impossible 7 premiere at the Cubix Berlin

For the Mission Impossible 7 film premiere at the Cinestar Cubix on Berlin's Alexanderplatz, UpReach supplied a pop-up photo booth with AI scene compositing. Premiere guests could choose between several iconic Mission Impossible scenes — from the ramp in the style of the film's hero to the yellow FIAT in a chase. AI background removal placed visitors convincingly into the chosen scene within seconds. Output via QR code straight to the smartphone — ready to share before the screening started in the auditorium.

More than 200 B2B brands from across Europe trust UpReach — from agencies to enterprise corporations.

The initial situation

Cinema film premieres have a sharply limited activation window: before and after the screening, guests have 30 to 60 minutes in the foyer. The brand activation has to work in that time — otherwise the guests are in the auditorium and the touchpoint is useless.

Mission Impossible premieres draw a discerning audience: film journalists, industry partners, influencers and premium cinephiles. A standard selfie setup with a film logo in the background would not have matched the cinematic standard of the brand. Mission Impossible's visual world is precisely staged — the brand activation had to meet the same standard.

The technical requirement: visitors had to be integrated into several different scenes, each with its own image composition (the ramp, the FIAT interior, a chase setting) — visually convincing, without the bolted-on green-screen look. The cinema Wi-Fi in the foyer was no reliable basis for AI processing. The capture flow had to run even without a stable connection.

The UpReach solution

UpReach supplied an UpReach Pro V1 with a custom software layer for the premiere. The interface ran in the Mission Impossible 7 visual design — typography, colour palette and UI elements matched the film's campaign aesthetic.

The core mechanism was the digital scene selection with AI scene compositing: premiere guests chose at the touchscreen between several predefined film scenes — the ramp in the style of the film's hero, the yellow FIAT as part of a chase, further iconic settings. The AI engine cut the visitor out of the foyer background in milliseconds and composited them into the chosen scene. The AI was trained for a light and depth match to each scene, so every generated image looked visually convincing — not a stuck-on sticker, but a composed image.

Output was available either by email or by QR code straight to the smartphone. Before delivery, visitors passed through a GDPR-compliant data request form — the data needed for email delivery was captured with an opt-in timestamp.

For the premiere, offline mode with local processing at the terminal was booked — image processing ran independently of the cinema Wi-Fi. Data processing was GDPR-compliant, with consent before capture.

Setup & Logistics

Lead time 5 weeks: 2 weeks for software configuration (custom UI in the Mission Impossible design, the scene-compositing layer for the various film worlds, the QR-code pipeline), 2 weeks for visual brand alignment with the film distributor (scene templates, colour profiles, sign-off of the AI outputs by the brand team), 1 week for on-site logistics and build testing in the Cubix foyer with the actual lighting conditions.

Build the day before the premiere by an UpReach technician. Camera calibration to the Cubix foyer lighting — with several different scene templates, the lighting setup is the decisive factor for clean background removal and compositing.

The cloud CMS ran in the background: sessions, QR scans and system health were available live — relevant insights for the film distributor on foyer behaviour and the most popular scene templates. On-site support throughout the entire premiere event. Teardown straight afterwards.

The installation became the central foyer touchpoint before and after the screening. The multiple scene selection worked: visitors picked their favourite scene and received an AI photo that genuinely looked like a film scene — no generic green-screen composition.

The QR-code workflow was the reach lever: finished images landed on the guest's smartphone within seconds — ready to share before the auditorium opened. The shared images carried the film's visual language onto Instagram, TikTok and WhatsApp.

The GDPR-compliant email opt-in also generated usable data for the distributor's follow-up communication — from DVD and streaming release announcements to pre-sale notifications for the next title in the series.

Key takeaways from this setup

Several scenes beat a single standard composition: when visitors can choose between iconic film scenes, the interaction is more active than with one fixed composition. The choice is a micro-engagement that increases dwell time at the touchpoint.

A cinema foyer needs an offline buffer: cinema Wi-Fi is not sized for AI image processing and collapses under foyer peak load. For the premiere, offline mode was booked so the capture flow stayed stable — consent before capture and GDPR-compliant processing apply in any case.

QR-code output accelerates the social push: email delivery is slow and tied to the guest's inbox attention. A QR code on the smartphone means image capture, AI composition and social post all happen within minutes — before the premiere even starts in the auditorium.

A visual match to the film campaign is the brand-acceptance threshold: at cinematic premieres with precisely staged visual language, the AI output has to meet the same standard. A custom UI in the campaign design and scene compositing with a light match are the minimum requirement — no stuck-on sticker effect.
